Short answer
To summarize a busy Discord server you are only a member of, first look for Discord's own Summaries; if your server does not have them, you need something that reads the server as you, because a member cannot add a bot. This guide is for people in busy servers (open-source projects, communities, customer servers) who come back after a day or a week and want what was decided, what is still open and what mentions them, without scrolling hundreds of messages.
Why it's hard
- Discord's Summaries are an experiment. Discord's help center says In-Channel Conversation Summaries are limited to a few servers.
- Members cannot add a bot. Summary bots need someone with the Manage Server permission to add them.
- Copy and paste stops at one channel. It works once, for one channel, and loses the links to the messages.
- The unread view does not summarize. Discord shows you that something is new, not what it says.

Discord's Summaries
Where they are on, a topic line appears under the channel name and opens a list of summaries. Discord's help center describes them as an experiment limited to a few servers, so most servers do not have them.
Summary bots
SummaryBot recaps one channel or the whole server with /summarize, and can post recaps on a schedule. Summary Bot offers private catch-up summaries with /catchup. Both are added by an admin, so a member has to ask.
A browser extension
HARPA AI summarizes the conversation on the page you have open in your browser, Discord included. It reads what is on screen, one channel at a time.
Copy and paste
Select the messages, paste them into ChatGPT or Claude, ask for a summary. Fine for one channel, once.
Reduck
An AI agent reads the server as you, channel by channel, from your own signed-in Chrome, and writes the summary you ask for, with a link to each source message.
How Reduck does it
list_servers and list_channels give your agent the server's channels.
read_messages reads the latest messages of each channel, by its link, as many as your agent asks for; your agent keeps the ones since the day you give.
search_messages finds the messages that mention you or a topic across the whole server, with Discord's own search.
- Your agent writes the summary: what was decided, what is still open, what mentions you, each point with a link to its message.
Nothing is posted and nothing changes in the server. Each script runs only when your agent calls it.
How to start
- Create a free account at reduck.ai.
- Install the Reduck extension in Chrome and pair it.
- Connect Reduck to your agent: docs.reduck.ai.
- Ask: "Summarize what I missed in the {server name} Discord server since {day}, channel by channel, with what was decided, what is still open, what mentions me, and a link to each source message."
Which one to pick
- Your server has Discord's Summaries: use them.
- You run the server: add a summary bot for everyone.
- One channel, once: copy and paste.
- You are a member, the server is busy, and you want every channel you follow: Reduck.
