Best way to search your Discord DMs and servers with AI (2026): 7 ways compared, from Discord's search to ChatGPT and Claude

Prompt template

Search my Discord servers and DMs for topic and tell me what was said, by whom and when, with links to the messages.

Short answer

To search your Discord DMs and servers with AI, you need a tool that reaches both, and only your own account does: a bot never sees your DMs. So the choice is between exporting your messages and giving the file to an assistant, or letting an assistant read Discord as you. This page compares the seven ways people use, for anyone who wants to ask ChatGPT or Claude "what did we decide about pricing, and who said it?" across servers and DMs.

Why it's hard

  • Discord's search has no AI. It finds words in one server or one conversation at a time, with filters such as from:, in: and has:.
  • There is no door for your own account. Discord publishes no API and no MCP server for a user's own messages.
  • A bot is blind to DMs. A bot sees only the servers it was invited to, which needs the Manage Server permission, and never your direct messages.
  • The data package is half the story. Discord's data package holds the messages you sent, not the replies you received, and can take up to 30 days to arrive.

The 7 ways, compared

As each tool's own page describes it, read on November 1, 2026. "Not documented" means we did not find it on their page.

Your DMs Servers you only joined Your Discord token AI answers Setup
Discord's own search Yes, one at a time Yes, one at a time Not needed No None
Data package + an assistant Your messages only Your messages only Not needed Yes, on the file A request, up to 30 days
DiscordChatExporter + an assistant Yes Yes Needed Yes, on the export Desktop app or CLI
Discrub Yes Yes Needed for the web app Not documented Browser extension or web app
AI search bots (SummaryBot /ask and others) No Only where an admin added the bot Not needed Yes An admin adds the bot
Selfbot MCP servers Yes Yes Needed Yes, from your agent Run on your machine
Reduck Yes, one-to-one and group Yes, every server you are in Not needed Yes, from ChatGPT or Claude Stay signed in to Discord in Chrome

1. Discord's own search

Free and built in. It finds a word in one server or one conversation, with filters. It does not answer a question, and you search each server yourself.

2. The data package, then an assistant

Request your data in Discord's settings, then upload the messages to ChatGPT or Claude. You only get what you wrote, and it arrives in up to 30 days.

3. DiscordChatExporter, then an assistant

DiscordChatExporter is the open-source exporter most guides recommend. It saves the history of any channel or DM to a file you can give an assistant. It asks for your Discord token, and its own documentation says automating a user account is technically against Discord's terms.

4. Discrub

Discrub is a browser extension and web app to export, search, filter and purge your Discord messages. Its README explains how to find your Discord token for the web app.

5. AI search bots

Bots such as SummaryBot let a server ask its history questions (SummaryBot's /ask). They answer well where they are installed, but an admin has to add them, and a bot never sees your DMs.

6. Selfbot MCP servers

Community MCP servers that log in as you with your account token, so your agent sees what you see. Your token works like your password, and these projects warn that automating a user account can get it banned. See every Discord MCP server compared.

7. Reduck

Reduck is an MCP server for ChatGPT, Claude and other clients. Its Discord scripts run in your own Chrome, where you are already signed in, so your assistant searches every server you are in with Discord's own search and reads your DMs, with no token, no bot and no export.

How Reduck does it

  1. list_servers gives your assistant the servers you are in, and search_messages runs Discord's own search in each one: up to 25 messages a page, with Discord's total count and a link to each message.
  2. list_dms lists your one-to-one and group DMs, and read_messages reads the conversations that matter, newest first.
  3. Your assistant reads the hits and the messages around them, and answers who said what, when, with the links.

Reading and searching change nothing in your account, and each script runs only when your assistant calls it.

How to start

  1. Create a free account at reduck.ai.
  2. Install the Reduck extension in Chrome and pair it.
  3. Connect Reduck to your agent: docs.reduck.ai.
  4. Ask: "Search my Discord servers and DMs for {topic} and tell me what was said, by whom and when, with links to the messages."

Which one to pick

  • One word, one server, today: Discord's own search.
  • A one-time archive you keep: DiscordChatExporter, if you accept giving it your token.
  • A server you run, for everyone in it: an AI search bot.
  • Your DMs and every server you joined, from ChatGPT or Claude, without your token: Reduck.

FAQ

A tool that acts as your own account, because only your account reaches your DMs and every server you are in. Exporting with DiscordChatExporter then asking an assistant works, but needs your Discord token. Reduck lets ChatGPT or Claude search your servers with Discord's own search and read your DMs from your signed-in Chrome, with no token.
Not on their own. Discord has no official connector for ChatGPT or Claude and no public API for your own account. The assistant needs a way in, an export you upload or an MCP server such as Reduck.
A Discord bot sees only the servers it was invited to, and never a member's direct messages. AI search bots such as SummaryBot's /ask therefore search the servers where someone added them, not your DMs.
Not in Discord itself. Its search covers one server or one conversation at a time. An agent can do it for you, server by server, and answer with the hits from all of them.
Some AI bots offer it on the servers they are added to. Discord's own search matches words with filters (from:, in:, has:, before:). With Reduck, your assistant picks the words, runs Discord's search, reads the hits and the messages around them, and answers in plain language.
Your token works like your password, and Discord forbids automating a user account outside its bot API. DiscordChatExporter's own documentation says automating a user account is technically against Discord's terms. Reduck never asks for your token or your password.

Best Discord MCP servers

Discord has no official MCP server, so every Discord MCP is a community project or a hosted service. We compare the bot-token servers (SaseQ, hanweg, barryyip0625, v-3), the hosted connectors (Composio, Zapier, Docker's catalog), Anthropic's Discord plugin for Claude Code, the selfbot servers, and Reduck, on what each reads, how it signs in and whether it reaches your DMs.

Discord MCP

A Discord MCP server that acts as your own user account, not as a bot. Reduck gives ChatGPT, Claude or any MCP client tools to read your servers, channels and DMs and reply as you, through browser automation in your own Chrome, with no bot to invite and no user token to paste.
