Is there a Discord MCP?
Yes, but not from Discord. Discord has not published an MCP server, so every Discord MCP you can add to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor is a community project or a third-party service. They fall into four kinds, and the kind decides what your agent can see:
- Bot-token servers connect a Discord bot to your agent. The bot sees only the servers it was invited to, and never your direct messages.
- Hosted connectors (Composio, Zapier, Docker's catalog) run a Discord integration for you.
- Selfbot servers log in as your user account with your account token.
- Reduck reads Discord as you, from the Discord tab you are already signed in to in your own Chrome.
This page is for anyone choosing a Discord MCP for their agent: founders and community managers who live in Discord, developers who follow many servers, and anyone who wants their agent to answer "what did I miss?".
Why there is no simple answer
Discord gives an agent two doors. The bot API is the door Discord designs: you create an application in the Developer Portal, turn on the Message Content intent and invite the bot to each server, which needs the Manage Server permission there. A bot then sees those servers only. It never sees your DMs, and the bot API has no message search. The other door is your own account, and Discord's support page on automated user accounts forbids automating it outside the bot API.

Reduck
A hosted MCP server whose Discord scripts run in your own Chrome, where you are already signed in. Your agent lists your servers and DMs, reads any channel, thread, forum post or DM, searches a whole server's history with Discord's own search, and replies or sends a DM when you ask. There is no bot, no token and no password, and one MCP URL works in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients. Every Discord tool.
SaseQ/discord-mcp
An MIT-licensed server built on JDA, a Java library for Discord bots, that connects a bot to AI clients. The most cited Discord MCP repository on GitHub. Best when you run the server and want your agent to manage it through a bot.
hanweg/mcp-discord and v-3/discordmcp
Two smaller open-source servers built on a bot, for Claude and other local MCP clients. Same reach as any bot: the servers it was invited to.
barryyip0625/mcp-discord
A bot-token server that its listing says supports two transports, stdio and streamable HTTP, so it can run locally or as a remote server you host.
Anthropic's Discord plugin for Claude Code
Part of Anthropic's official Claude Code plugins. Its README starts by creating a Discord application and a bot, so you can talk to a Claude Code session from Discord. It is a bridge for your coding session, not a reader of your servers and DMs.
Composio and Zapier
Hosted connectors. Composio's Discord toolkit connects through Discord sign-in, and its page shows actions such as listing the servers you belong to. Zapier's MCP exposes Zapier's Discord actions to an AI tool. Reading your messages and DMs is not documented on either page.
Docker MCP catalog
Docker packages a Discord MCP server that needs secrets you provide and lists 20 tools. What it signs in with beyond those secrets is not documented on the catalog page.
Selfbot servers
Servers such as discord.py-self-mcp ("a comprehensive Discord selfbot MCP server") and discord-user-mcp ("using user tokens, no bot setup required") log in as you with your account token, so they see what you see, DMs included. Your token works like your password, and these projects warn that automating a user account can get it banned.
How to choose
- You run the server and want an always-on assistant there: a bot-token server (SaseQ/discord-mcp is the most used). That is the route Discord designs for.
- You want to talk to Claude Code from Discord: Anthropic's Discord plugin.
- You want your own DMs and every server you are in, read only when you ask, without pasting a token: Reduck.
How Reduck does it
Reduck's Discord scripts drive the Discord web app in your own Chrome, the way you use it. list_servers and list_dms give your agent the map, read_messages reads a channel or a DM newest first, and search_messages runs Discord's own search on one server, 25 messages a page with Discord's total count. Each script runs only when your agent calls it. Reading and searching change nothing; replying and sending a DM are separate scripts, so your client can ask you before each one.
How to start
- Create a free account at reduck.ai.
- Install the Reduck extension in Chrome and pair it.
- Connect Reduck to your agent: docs.reduck.ai.
- Ask: "Find what was said about {topic} in my Discord servers and DMs this week, then summarize it with links to the messages."
