Discord keyword alerts without a bot or admin rights: get notified when a keyword is mentioned in servers you don't manage, with Claude or ChatGPT (2026)

Prompt template

Every morning, search my Discord servers server names for new messages that mention keywords. Drop the ones that are not really about them, and send me only the messages I have not seen yet, with the server, the channel, the author and the link.

Overview

You want to know when someone mentions your product, your name or a topic in the Discord servers you are in. But you are not an admin or a moderator, so you cannot add a bot or set up AutoMod. With Reduck, Claude, ChatGPT or any AI agent searches your servers for your keywords as you, and sends you only the new messages.

Why it's hard

Discord only notifies you of @mentions and replies. Its keyword rules, AutoMod, are for people who manage the server, and so is adding a keyword-alert bot: someone with the Manage Server permission has to invite it. The tools that work for a regular member change your client (BetterDiscord or Vencord plugins, while Discord's policy says not to modify the client for any reason) or log in with your user token as a self-bot. Running Discord's search by hand, every day, for every keyword and every server, is what most people end up doing.

How Reduck does it

Reduck runs Discord actions in your own Chrome, where you are already signed in, so your agent sees every server and channel you can see. It lists your servers with list_servers, then calls search_messages on each one with your keyword: Discord's own search answers with the newest matches first, 25 per page, with the channel, the author, the text, the time and a link. Your agent keeps the messages newer than its last check, drops the ones that are not really about your keyword, and sends you the rest.

Tools

Script What it does Takes
list_servers The servers you are a member of, with their ids nothing
list_channels A server's channels, with their ids the server id
search_messages The newest messages of one server that match your keyword, 25 per page the server id, the keyword, channels (optional)

Connect it

  1. Install the Reduck extension in Chrome and stay signed in to Discord there, in one tab only.
  2. Add Reduck to your client: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or any other MCP client.
  3. Ask: "Search my Discord servers {server names} for new messages that mention {keywords}, and send me only the ones I have not seen yet."

FAQ

Not with Discord's own tools. Discord notifies you of @mentions and replies, and members have asked it for keyword notifications on its feedback site since at least 2019. Its keyword rules, AutoMod, can only be created by members with the Manage Server or Administrator permission, according to Discord's AutoMod FAQ, and its alerts go to a channel the moderators choose. Keyword-alert bots need the same rights: the setup of DiscordNotifier, a keyword bot on GitHub, starts with "a Discord Server where you have Administrator permissions". As a regular member, what you can use is Discord's own search, which sees every channel you can see: Reduck lets your AI agent run it for you, for each keyword and each server.
No. Your agent checks when you ask, or on the schedule you give it, for example every morning or every hour. Discord's search also lists a new message about a minute after it is sent (seen in our tests on 2026-10-20). If you need an alert within seconds, a bot in the server, set up by its admins, or a client plugin like KeywordPing is faster.
KeywordPing is a BetterDiscord plugin, version 3.0.0 with 3,742 downloads when we read its page on 2026-10-21, that shows Discord's own notification when a message matches your keywords, in real time. It needs BetterDiscord, a modified Discord client, and Discord's Platform Manipulation Policy says not to modify the Discord client for any reason. It runs inside your client, so it alerts on the messages your client receives while it is open. Reduck needs no client mod: your agent searches each server's history, so it also finds what was said while you were away.
Yes, one server per search. Your agent lists your servers with list_servers and runs the search on each one you name. Each search returns up to 25 messages, newest first, with Discord's total count, so the agent keeps only the ones newer than its last check.
Yes. search_messages narrows a search to channels by their ids, which list_channels gives, and to authors or content types (links, files, images). Ask for "mentions of our product in #feedback and #help" and only those channels are searched.
No. Reduck never receives your Discord token or password. It searches in the Discord tab you are already signed in to, in your own Chrome. It is still automation of your account, which Discord's terms restrict, so we cannot promise Discord will never flag it; a check a few times a day keeps the pace of a person.
Yes. Reduck connects to ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any other MCP client. A check runs whenever you ask in the chat, or as a scheduled task if your AI client offers them.
