Check a word against the UK trade mark register

Search the UK Intellectual Property Office's trade mark register for a word or phrase and return the marks it finds: the registration number and its page on the register, the status, the mark text as registered, the filing date, and the Nice classes it covers. Choose how closely the mark text has to match — the register's own similar, exact, starts-with, contains-word and contains-string options — and optionally narrow to particular classes of goods and services. Similar is the register's default and the widest of the options, so it is the one to use when the question is whether anything close already exists. The total number of marks the register found is returned alongside the ones collected, so a search that matches far more than was asked for is visible rather than silently truncated. A search that matches nothing returns an empty list and a total of zero. This is the public register, published under the Open Government Licence. The service applies a security check to visits it considers automated, and a search that is turned away is reported as a failure rather than as a result of no matches. It is meant for checking a name, not for bulk collection.

Input

query required

The word or phrase to look for in the mark text, e.g. "GUINNESS" or "blue ocean".

count optional

How many marks to collect. The register shows ten per page, so a larger count walks on through further pages and stops when the results run out.

Default: 10
match optional

How the mark text must match: SIMILAR is the register's own default and includes near matches; EXACT is the whole mark text only; STARTSWITH, CONTAINSWORD and CONTAINSSTRING are the register's prefix, whole-word and substring options.

Default: "SIMILAR"
classes optional

Restrict to these Nice classes of goods and services (1-45). Omitted searches every class.

match_words optional

For a multi-word query, whether a mark must contain all the words or any of them. Has no effect on a single word.

Default: "ALLWORDS"

Output

marks required
match required
query required
returned required
totalFound required

How many marks the register reports for this search in total, which is usually more than were collected.

resultsSummary optional

The register's own summary line, which also gives the date range the matches were filed in.
